Goals
Prevalence and incidence of diabetes and pre-diabetes in the first-degree relatives of diabetic patients in Isfahan
• Significant risk factors for the diabetes and pre-diabetes
Study population
First-degree relatives of type II diabetic patients registered in Isfahan Endocrine and Metabolism Research Center
Sampling method and sample size
Convenience sampling (non-probability)
• Sample size: 3438 participants for the first phase.
Data Collection
- Enrolling 35-55 years old relatives of type 2 diabetes
- Examination; Interview and laboratory measurements
- Demographic characteristics, anthropometric and clinical variables; glucose and lipid profiles; Nutritional status and physical activity; Smoking
- OGTT;
- Healthy life style training
- Repeat OGTT every 3 years for normal glucose tolerance, every year for prediabetic participants and refer to diabetic clinic for diabetic patients
- Repeat baseline measurements in each follow up visit
Follow up Methods
According to the protocol,
• Every 3 years for normal participants
• Annually measurements for prediabetic participants
• Refer of diabetic people to diabetes clinics
