Diabetes mellitus and its risk factors among a middle-aged population of Iran, a population-based study

Results
Among 6311 individuals selected and invited for the study, 5190 (82.2 %) people participated in the study. Blood glucose test was performed on 5183 people; out of which, 2150 (41.6 %) were male. The mean and standard deviation of age of the participants were 50.9 and 6.3 years, respectively. The mean and standard deviation of non-fasting blood glucose levels were 117.03 and 63.7 mg/dl, respectively, and 12.3 % of them were diabetics.
The mean blood glucose level in diabetic patients was 240.1 mg/dl (95 % CI = 231.4–248.8) and in non-diabetics was 99.8 mg/dl (95 % CI = 99.2–100.4). With increasing age, the mean blood glucose (P < 0.001) and the prevalence of diabetes increased (Table 1).
