Goals
To determine the prevalence and incidence of cardiovascular diseases risk factors and outcomes such as coronary artery diseases and stroke To determine the prevalence and incidence and risk factors of musculo-skeletal diseases and geriatric syndromes urban population Bushehr
Study population
Men and women aged >=60 years old, Bushehr, Iran
Sampling method and sample size
Multistage stratified cluster random sampling 3000 men and women
Data Collection
With interviews and using questionnaires for assessing demographics, past medical history, medications, and lifestyle, to assess of cognitive function, mood activity of daily living, frailty, physical examination and ECG, anthropometric measurement, biochemical analysis of serum , bone densitometry, muscle mass measurement, echocardiography, grasping power measurement, measure walking speed, and stored serum samples and DNA
Follow up Methods
– Death Registry System, Hospital Information System, Active surveillance by calling.
– recalling the older people to repeat the assessment every 2.5 years, particularly cardiovascular assessment, bone densitometry, cognitive assessment and evaluation of function
Main Exposures
Demographic variables, Socio-economic status, behavioral (eg, nutrition, physical activity, smoking), metabolic risk factors, mood, personal medical history, family medical history, biological (eg, anthropometric, blood pressure and pulse, ECG), biochemical and genetic factors
Outcomes
Death, AMI, Stroke, hospital admission, Fall, Fractures
