A 2016 study published in the journal Nephrology found that, among 2,382 participants in the Tehran Lipid and Glucose Study, those who drank more than four sugar-sweetened soft drinks a week had more than double the risk of developing kidney disease than those who drank half a serving of soda or less each week.
